And in case you were wondering if Sam was able to be up and about for this Independence Day….

I think that pretty much sums it up!
Brain surgery four weeks ago? (Check!)
Beginning radiation and chemo this week and having a rough go of it with lots of throwing up? (check!)
Recovering just in time to go swimming with friends and enjoying the fireworks on the Fourth of July? (check!)
Having a FABULOUS time with family and friends? (Check! Check!)
And what a fun time we had! Yes, the weather didn’t really cooperate and we had quite a bit of drizzle and rain, but we didn’t care! It was such an incredible feeling to see Sam laughing, joking, and playing like he always has-just a typical seven year old having fun with his brother and buddies. We spent the afternoon swimming over at my cousin Lee’s (in the rain-they didn’t care!) and then headed over to my friend Kathy’s house for a Fourth of July celebration..complete with hamburgers on the grill, lots of good food and drink and a homemade fireworks celebration. It was wonderful- wonderful because we were in good company and Sam was feeling well and having a wonderful time. There really is nothing better than seeing happiness on your child’s face and that brought joy to ours.
Tomorrow we will make our daily trip back down to Riley for his daily radiation treatment. He will also receive his weekly dose of Chemo early in the week. We are praying that the new anti-nausea medicine that they have prescribed for him will continue to be effective in holding off the vomiting and making him more comfortable. So far it is working miracles! :) Please continue to pray for his comfort and for total healing for Sam.
I continue to be in awe of everything that Sam has gone through, how well he is doing and how resilient he is. How is it that one can be lying on the operating table having brain surgery 34 days ago and then be jumping off diving boards, walking, talking, laughing, playing and have no sign of injury or trauma or really any side effects other than a scar up the back of his head and a little bit of a stiff neck? Amazing. God is good and he is at work here. We feel so blessed that we have had wonderful doctors treating Sam and continue to treat Sam. They are incredible. What a God given gift they have.
We hope you all had a wonderful 4th as well, hopefully spent with close friends and family!
Until next time!

What a beautiful child Sam is! The pictures speak volumes to the love you and your family share. 1Thes5:16-18 Always be joyful. Keep on praying. No matter what happens, always be thankful for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
Psalm 35:9 Then I will rejoice in the Lord. I will be glad because he rescues me.
Erica, I am so glad to see how much fun ya’ll had on the 4th! We were very close to you visiting my dad and the rest of the family on the fourth. If things have settled down for your family maybe we can get together for dinner or a boat ride the next time Clarence and I visit dad. I hope all continues to go well for Sam and the rest of your family! Hope to see you again soon!

Wow these pictures are amazing and Sam looks great. Good to hear that things are going so well with the chemo and radiation. We continue to pray for Sam. Let us know when he is up for a play date, even if it is just sitting to play DS with David.

These photos bring tears of JOY to my eyes!! Sam is SO strong and is doing SO well. Thank you LORD Jesus!!! Eveyday a new day on the path to recovery and healing. Positive thoughts ALWAYS. Good to see Sam wearing his “medal”…AND Alex can’t wait to ride this “Scrambler”/ATV thing.
Luv Ya!
Erica/Jere: We drove past your neighborhood yesterday and wondered how you and Sam were doing on this holiday weekend. I’m SO delighted to see this post. Children have this amazing capacity to “go with the flow,” and I’m sure it’s because they haven’t learned yet how to be worried or stressed like adults. It’s a wonderful gift. Go Sam Go!!!
Love – Jess, Mike, Emma & Abby
