I think it’s safe to say that not many of you have ever been invited to such an event, (hey, it was our first too!) and we do admit it is a little unconventional, but we enjoy celebrating milestones and this was indeed a milestone for Sam! Tuesday, Sam had his last radiation treatment….FOREVER. Dare I write that? Yes, I do because I truly believe that Sam is on the road to recovery. No more trips to Bloomington, no more masks, no more laying in a room strapped to a table receiving radiation. No more. Done. When he was finished with his last treatment on Tuesday, the staff at MPRI in Bloomington threw him a little party.
A Transformer themed celebration was requested by Sam, complete with a cookie cake.

Then they spoiled him with about six Transformers!

A lot of the staff that treated Sam during his 18 rounds in Bloomington helped Sam celebrate his last day!

Including Dr. Chang, Sam’s radiation oncologist. We LOVE Dr. Chang! He is so kind, caring and really knows his stuff. He has a cute smile too, don’t you think? Speaking of smiles, do you notice a little something protruding from Sam’s smile? Yep! It’s a loose tooth. In fact, we call it his “Hillbilly Tooth” because it looks like those fake hillbilly teeth you get at Party City. Even though it is about ready to come out, he refuses to let us touch it!

The celebration continued back at our home with a few friends!

Here we had a theme change from “Transformers” to “Hamburgers???” For some reason, Sam requested a hamburger cake at his Radiation Celebration and my friend Kathy’s old neighbor Renee busted out this AWESOME hamburger cake! Thanks Renee! He loved it! So did everyone! And yes, it tasted just as good as it looked!

Sam was pretty tired at his celebration, but had just enough energy to eat a piece of cake and visit with some friends before some much needed couch time. And I think Sam’s smile says it all…he’s glad to be done with radiation too!

Thank you all for helping us celebrate this milestone with Sam. Even if you couldn’t be here for his “celebration” we know you are celebrating and cheering him on from afar. Go Sam Go!
BELIEF
It’s what we trust in but don’t yet see that keeps us going.

HOORAY SAM, It’s over. Your cakes looked yummy. As Maddie would say mmmm. The oldest boy in my daycare loves transformers too. He is already looking forward to Halloween so he can wear his transformer costume. I don’t know much about transformers so I will send you a giftcard soon so you can go pick one out. I hope you continue to get better and better, By the way I love your loose tooth. You wear it well. Lots of love, Aunt Darleen
Strong Sammy strikes again! Go Sam Go! We love you very much and wish we were there to celebrate with you! Love all of you so very much!
Sam! So glad to hear your radiation is over!! I will pray that it’s the last time you ever have to deal that mask! I recently found out that I have a brain tumor as well. It’s a tough thing to understand but it looks like you have quite a lot of people who love you and are praying for you. Count me as part of that group.
You are a brave guy and I know you are going to be just fine. Hang in there!
Erica! It is so great to see the progress and Sam’s journey! I am so happy for him that he has overcome that obstacle! He is such a strong young man! I have tears in my eyes reading about his journey and the celebrations that you are able to have….and will continue to have!!
So happy radiation is over…. Go Sam Go!!!
Way to go Sam!!! These photos are GREAT and Sam’s smile in the last photo is wonderful – it is equal in strength to the one at the top of the blog – pre-treatment. His spirit is stong as is his support group. We are all your cheerleaders everyday sweet boy! Luv, YOU!!
Rejoicing with you guys!!!!!!! Big hugs to you all! (Oops, I typed “bug hugs” first, then fixed it!)
