Round One of Chemo? CHECK!

Round one of Chemo is over!  Hooray!  Just seven more to go!  Sam completed his three weeks of medication (one chemo dose each week for three weeks) and now is in his three week recovery period.  During this time, he is not receiving chemo, but allowing his body and counts to rebound.  He will begin round two November 3rd.  Overall, Sam tolerated this first round very, very well.  We are now in the process of weening him off of his steroids and that is proving to be a bit of a challenge.  The weening process can make him sick and he’s had some good days and some better days.  His energy level is still that of a senior citizen, but he does have his moments.  Last week he played a game of “football” ( I use that VERY loosely!) with his cousins and some friends out in the yard.  The boys were SO KIND to him….throwing him the ball, being careful with him, giving him the opportunity to make a touchdown, catching his throws.  Their kindness, tenderness and compassion brought tears to my eyes.  Needless to say, he was worn out after about 15 minutes.  His strength and energy is just not what it used to be.

Sam is DYING to go back to school, but they have still advised him to stay home due to the flu outbreak.  We will check in this week with his school nurse to see if there has been an improvement in the building.  My friend, Lori, (one of my teacher friends), has been coming over to tutor him a few times a week and loves it.  He says staying home is boring (apparently I’m just not as fun as I used to be) and even asked to take a spelling test the other day.  What?!!!

And what’s a post to the blog without a photo?  My sister, Jessica, who lives in Oregon, was driving down the road the other day and came across this license plate.  What are the odds of that???
